Gallery 7 Theatre & Performing Arts, Abbotsford's only full-time, community/semi-professional theatre, invites all community performers ages 12 & up to attend the company's next open audition on December 2, 2010 at 6:30 PM, this time for their March production of Anne Chislet's drama, Quiet in the Land.

A prodigal son story set in a Canadian Amish Community during WW I, Quiet in the Land explores the complexities of tradition and faith in an ever changing world. Yock Bauman can't comprehend how his strict father can stand idly by while war rages on in Europe. Shunning the pacifist beliefs of his community, Yock enlists in the military where he soon becomes a hero to the nation, but an outcast to his own.  Having been powerfully affected by the horrors of battle, Yock returns to his father but soon finds he has lost more than he could have imagined.

"This production features a unique blend of humor and tragedy" explains Gallery 7 Theatre's executive artistic director, Ken Hildebrandt. "We had great success when we produced this play ten years ago, and we think remounting it this season is a perfect way to commemorate the theatre's 20th anniversary and in some ways, to figuratively take us back to our roots as an organization."

Quiet in the Land features some rewarding and challenging acting opportunities for 6 men and 5 women ages 16 & up, as well as a couple of non-speaking roles for children. Acting experience or training is not mandatory, however, the ability to sing and to speak in a German accent is an asset. Directing Quiet in the Land will be Langley resident, Shannon Braithwaite.

Quiet in the Land will run March 4 & 5, 10 - 12, 17 - 19, 2011 @ 7:30 PM with additional matinees on March 5 & 12 at 2:00 PM. Rehearsals will commence January 3, 2011 and will occur on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, 6PM - 10 PM. A couple of Saturday rehearsals will also be held. All performances and rehearsals will be held at the MEI Theatre in Abbotsford.

Those interested in working behind the scenes in such areas as assistant stage management, sound operation, running crew and others are also invited to attend the audition. All interested individuals are asked to sign up ahead of time by calling 604-504-5940, emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. Gallery 7 Theatre's first production of the 2010/2011 20th anniversary theatre season, Peter Pan, adapted from J.M. Sword fights and narrow escapes ensue as the children band together to thwart the evil plans of Captain Hook. This is an exciting tale sure to capture the hearts and imaginations of both the young and the young at heart.
